We recently spoke with Coleman/Sevylor regarding “what’s new” and “what’s not” in the 2011 Sevylor inflatable kayak lineup.
What’s New
Coleman, continuing with the Sevylor label for inflatables, will be coming out with 3 new kayaks under the tag line, “QuickPak Kayak – the grab and go kayak.”
The unique feature in the QuickPak design is an integrated storage carry system. What does this mean? The Sevylor Quickpaks sport a unique system in which some part of the kayak (such as the seat) folds around and zips with another piece to create a “backpack” for easy portability. Other standard items on each of the three QuickPaks include a DIN safety chamber, tracking fins, Coleman’s standard double-lock/mini double-lock valves, a paddle and double action hand pump. All three of these kayaks are expected to be available in March, 2011.
Specifics on the three QuickPaks:

The QuickPak K5 kayak (Model #6972) replaces the Coleman Fastback. This is a one-person 10 ft kayak measuring 34 inches wide, weighs 28 lbs and has a max capacity of 250 lbs. The kayak body features a 900 Denier Polyester top, while the bottom is a 1000D x 1000D laminated polyester/24 gauge PVC. Multiple d-rings, storage area, pull handles, deck lacing, paddle, pump and a spray deck complete the kayak. The seat couples with the spray deck, forming a backpack with padded shoulder straps, that the kayak is folded into. Available March 2011. MSRP $299.99

The QuickPak K3 Covered Sit-On-Top Kayak (Model #6973) replaces the current 2010 model #3411. This is also a one-person 8 ft 4 inch kayak measuring 29 inches in width, weighs 28 lbs and has a max capacity of 250 lbs. The kayak body features the same 900 Denier Polyester top, while the bottom is a 1000D x 1000D laminated polyester/24 gauge PVC. Other details include handles for easy boarding, stretch cargo net for storage, foot rests, paddle, pump and carry handles. The seat zippers into a backpack. MSRP $199.99

The QuickPak K1 Coverless Sit-on-Top (Model #6974) replaces the current 2010 model #3407. This is a one person single-layer kayak with a length of 8′ 7″, width of 36 inches, weighs about 16 lbs with a max capacity of 400 lbs. The body consists of 21 gauge PVC. Recessed compartments have a secure cargo net for storing gear, a cupholder and an inflatable back rest. Not quite clearly stated, it appears to also have a cloth seat – or part of a seat, that velcroes to the backrest; the kayak folds into the seat, and the cargo net secures the kayak in the backpack. MSRP $129.99
What’s the Same

Sevylor is continuing with the #3631 Colorado two-person canoe, and the #3630 Rio single-person canoe, but only in the hunter green/gray version; the blue will not be available. There are no changes to either of the two canoes except for a slight price increase to an MSRP of $449.99 on the Colorado, and $369.99 on the Rio.

The green model 3419 Pointer 1 is also remaining – once again there are no changes from the current 2010 version except for a slight price increase to an MSRP of $379.99.

The current model 3406 Non-Covered Sit-on-top is the only two person kayak remaining in the Sevylor lineup. There are no changes to the current version (which Coleman will not have available again until March 2011, but we still have in stock) and the price remains the same at an MSRP of $139.99.

Lastly, the green #3420 Samoa ISUP inflatable standup paddleboard will remain as currently designed, also the slight price increase to an MSRP of $799.99.
What’s Gone
The Pointer 2 (Model #3424) is history; Coleman stated they did not have enough sales. The “standard” self-bailing kayaks (SK100DS and SK200DS) are also history. Currently available at Airkayaks.com are closeouts on the 2009 model in yellow. Coleman never produced the 2010 red/gray version as they stated there was not enough interest. The Fastback Model #3415 has been replaced with the Quickpak K5.
The Sit-on-Top 2 person (Model 3417) is also disappearing, in fact the only two person model Coleman/Sevylor will be carrying will be the current uncovered Sit-on-Top #3406.
